Proton has officially launched the 2025 Proton X50, and while the carmaker calls it “all-new,” it’s more accurately a major generational upgrade—not just a facelift.

Under the hood, all variants now feature a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, replacing the previous 3-cylinder units. This new powerplant delivers 181 PS and 290 Nm, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The result is a quicker 0–100 km/h sprint time of 7.6 seconds (0.3s faster than before), along with a 4.7% improvement in fuel efficiency.

Prices for the new X50 start at RM89,800 for the Executive, RM101,800 for the Premium, and RM113,300 for the Flagship variant. However, Proton is offering a special early bird package for the first 10,000 customers, which includes a RM4,000 cash rebate, effectively bringing the prices down to RM85,800 (Executive), RM97,800 (Premium), and RM109,300 (Flagship).

The early bird package also comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, six free labour services, a 5-year in-car data package (2GB/month), and up to RM2,000 overtrade value for trade-ins. Financing is capped at attractive rates—2.35% per annum for 5 years, or 2.38% for 7 years. Buyers also enjoy enhanced Proton Insurance, which includes special perils coverage, RM500 child seat protection, and up to RM15,000 personal accident coverage per passenger.

On the tech front, the 2025 X50 impresses with a 14.6-inch infotainment screen across all variants, now equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard is an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster, a column-mounted gear stalk, ambient lighting, and dual phone holders—with wireless charging available on the Flagship.

In terms of safety, six airbags are now standard, along with a Rear Side Radar System. The Premium and Flagship models offer Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and Lane Centering Assist. The 360-degree camera system has been enhanced with a 180-degree underbody view, and Auto Park Assist makes maneuvering even easier.

Design-wise, the X50 receives a bold new look, featuring an aggressive front fascia with “triple eyebrow” LED daytime running lights, a red Ethereal Bow grille, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. New wheels are standard across the board—17-inch on the Executive, and 18-inch on the Premium and Flagship. The Flagship variant stands out further with a larger rear wing inspired by the Geely Binyue Beyond, a black roof, and a sporty red-black interior.

The lineup has also been simplified—the base Standard variant has been dropped, making Executive the new entry-level model, which is now much better equipped even at the starting price point.
With this comprehensive update, the 2025 Proton X50 is more refined, better equipped, and clearly aimed at delivering a more premium driving experience while maintaining strong value for money.
