Single, Super Single, Queen, King...what's the difference in these bed sizes, and why are they important? According to the omniscient Google.com, the average person will spend about 27 years asleep.  Assuming 6 leap years in that 27 year period, that’s about 9,861 days, 236,664 hours, or 14,199,840 minutes. In short – that’s a lot of time. Unless you’re a new parent, an insomniac, or a college student, you probably spend about 7 to 8 hours every single night curled up in bed, fast asleep.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure that you have the right bed to fall asleep in. So we’re going to give you the complete guide to the four most common bed size available in Malaysia – and we’ll be answering some interesting questions (and frequently asked questions we’ve received) all about beds.

WHAT IS THE SINGLE BED SIZE?

Bed size in Malaysia are usually defined and differentiated by their widths. The smallest of the four most common Malaysian sizes is the single size, coming in at a width of 3 feet, or around 91 centimetres.

What is single bed size

This size is most commonly used by younger kids, or young working adults moving out and living on their own for the first time. The 3-foot width doesn’t offer a lot of proverbial (or literal) wiggle room, but it’s wide enough for you to lay down and get a good night’s rest.

That being said, if you’re like me and you sleep with a mountain of soft toys on your bed, having a single bed may end up feeling more crowded than comfortable.

WHAT IS THE SUPER SINGLE BED SIZE?

Society’s answer to the Single problem – the super single bedframe is just like the single bedframe, except wider.

Boasting a width of 3.5 feet (roughly 106 centimetres), this bed size is better for those single sleepers who can only get to sleep when they’re suffocated by cushions and pillows.

What is Super Single Size Bed

With a little more space for you to roll around, the super single size has slowly started to grow in popularity (based on statistics from our sales, at least), especially for single sleepers, since it offers more space and comfort without burning too much of a bigger hole in your pockets.

WHAT IS THE QUEEN BED SIZE?

Probably the most commonly purchased bed size for couples, the queen size bed measurement comes in at a hefty 5-foot width (roughly 152 centimetres), giving you plenty of space to roll around and get comfy.

What is Queen Bed Size

With ample space for two people to sleep, the queen size bed is our most frequently purchased bedframe on account of the fact that it has enough room for two, but it isn’t so huge and girthy that it takes up all the floor space in a bedroom.

If you’re a couple in a smaller living space looking for a bed to sleep in, you’re probably going to want to invest in a Queen size bed.

WHAT IS THE KING BED SIZE?

The widest of all the sizes, the King Size bed dimension ranks at the top of the charts with a width of 6 feet (or about 183 centimetres) and could be considered as a luxury bed for couples, let alone a single sleeper.

What is King Bed Size

That being said, being the biggest bed means it also tends to come with the biggest price tag, hence why not every couple (or individual) will spring for a King-sized bed unless they have the money (and the space) to afford it.

NOW ON TO THE Q&A SEGMENT OF OUR ARTICLE!

Q: WHAT’S THE MOST POPULAR TYPE OF BED?

A: Though these statistics are not necessarily universal, based on the number of bedframe sales we’ve had of our Tia Headboard + Divan Combo on our Lazada page since January 2019 to date, it can be concluded that right now, the Single size bedframe is the most popular (comprising 33.6% of sales) , followed by the Queen size (27%), with the Super Single size variation trailing right behind it (27%).

Our King size bedframe sales currently makes up about 11.5% of the sales of our Tia Headboard + Divan combo.

Q: WHAT SIZE BED SHOULD I GET?

A: An important question indeed. The answer? It depends! There are a couple of things you should consider when choosing a bed size.

1. Your Living Situation

Are you living in a small space, or a large one? Do you have a lot of room for a bed, or not much room at all? Will you be sleeping in the bed alone, or with a partner?

The answer to all these questions will be highly important when it comes to choosing a bed. If you’re sleeping alone, in a small bedroom, you may want to consider investing in a smaller bed.

If you’re sleeping with a partner in a smaller space, you may spring for a Queen size bed instead of a King size.

If you’re sleeping on your own, but you’ve got a lot of space to fill, spoil yourself with a huge bed so you’ve got a lot of room to roll around.

Take a good look at the space you’ve got and the situation you're in – and decide from there!

2. How Do You Sleep?

I’m not talking about the Sam Smith song. What kind of a sleeper are you? Are you the type to lie down completely still and not move for the rest of the night?

Or are you the type that’s a hurricane in bed, and you often wake up to find that your feet are now on your pillow and your head is hanging off the edge of the mattress?

If you’re a single, stoic sleeper, then it should be no problem for you to invest in a single or super single bed. If you’re a restless sleeper, you may want to consider something a little larger so you’ve got plenty of room to roll around. It all depends on you and how you sleep!

Q: WHAT’S THE LARGEST BED SIZE?

A: Well, if you’re talking about the largest bed ever, that title belongs to the Commissie Zomerfeesten St Gregorius Hertme (try saying that 5 times fast), during the St. Gregorius summer festival in Hertme, and was measured at a whopping 86 feet 11 inches long (26.5 metres) and 53 feet 11 inches wide (16.44 metres).

Now that’s a big bed.

But if you’re talking about the largest bed size that’s commercially available in Malaysia, it would be the King Size bed. There are companies in America who have come out with larger variations on the King Size bed, including but not limited to the California King, the Alaskan King, and the Wyoming King, but those aren’t available locally right now.

Q: CAN I BUY TWO SINGLE MATTRESSES AND PUT THEM SIDE BY SIDE TO MAKE A KING SIZED MATTRESS?

A: I mean, theoretically, yes, I guess, though I’m not sure why you’d want to.

Q: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SINGLE AND A SUPER SINGLE BED SIZE?

A: We actually get this question a lot. The difference is the size. The super single is 6 inches wider. More space for cushions, or soft toys. Or rolling around.
